There's an urge to pinch his chin or maybe to say something that will make him laugh, only she can't think of anything clever and he's beyond the range of her fingertips before she can follow the urge.

"Come see me in the morning then," she says instead. "Bring some pastry and I'll see that we've coffee and anything else. I'll introduce you properly to Veronique if you haven't met her already. She's exquisitely horrible."
